Jesse Richardson, age 72, a well known resident of this city, succumbed to a long illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Hamrick, on west Columbia street Sunday evening at 6 o’clock. His death was caused by apoplexy.
The funeral services will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hamrick on west Columbia street Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The local order of Masons and the Greencastle Encampment of GAR will have charge of the funeral services. Rev. A. M. Bootman, pastor of the Christian church of this city will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Forest Hill cemetery. Mr. Richardson was born March 4th near St. Joe, Mo. He was the third of the family of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson. When the deceased was two years old his parents moved to Putnam county and settled on a farm near Stilesville. His childhood days were spent near Stilesville. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Bennett, who resided near that town in 1868. To this union was born two children, a son, Harry, and a daughter, Miss Margaret. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson and family moved from Stilesville to this city in 1878 and he had lived here since.
Mr. Richardson was a veteran of the Civil War. In 1861 when the war broke out he enlisted in Company A of Missouri Calvary, called Merrill Horse Cavalry, and served in the. army until 1865, when peace was declared. His war record is a good one. He was a buglar during the first few months of his career in the army. The Merrill Horse Cavalry, of which he was a member, took active part in many battles and established a splendid war record.
Mr. Richardson was in the insurance business in this city for thirty years and was one of the best-known residents of this county. He was connected with the insurance firm. Richardson Hurst, for seventeen years. His interest in this firm was sold to his business partner, C. Hurst, about one year ago, when he failed in health. Mr. Richardson has been ill for several months hut it was not until last Tuesday that his condition was considered serious. He is survived by two children: one daughter, Mrs. Robert Hamrick, of this city; one son, Harry Richardson, of Liberty, Ind., and two brothers, Fletcher Richardson, of Cloverdale, and C.W. Richardson, of Arlington, Kas.
The local Masonic order and the Greencastle Encampment of GAR both of which he was a member, will have charge of the funeral services. Both orders will attend the funeral in a body, to pay their last tribute to the memory of a worthy member of their organization. - kbz
